This woman I know,
She has an impending death sentence
But come what may, she’s livin’
Her heart and soul she’s givin’
And every day she’s tryin’
To forget to remember that she’s dyin’
But it’s always in her face
And she knows she’s losin’ the race
Against time. In her prime. Life. On the line.

Not ready to die
Not ready to say goodbye
Not ready to watch others cry
Over her grave as she lies
Dead. A statistic.

She thinks to herself
As her lonely grave fills
And out of six feet under, the fresh dirt spills
She was sick of being ill
sick of poppin’ pills,
And she was losing her will
To live. Each day.

Live each day as her last?
Consumed with thoughts from the past?
She thinks to herself in her grave as she lay
Maybe, just maybe, it’s better this way.
Finally at peace
Expired, was her lease. With life.
Finally at rest
When the last breath heaved from her chest.
Expired, was her lease. With life.

How did she get here?
To this place of despair?
Who is this woman?

What is this burden she bears?
She is a mother
A daughter
A sister
A lover
A prostitute
A virgin
A woman, like any other.

So what was her crime?
Why is she doin’ her time?

All it took was one kiss
And things got pretty heated
He said “nah, I don’t need protection”
And she lay there defeated.
“No, please get off me,” was her pitiful plea
And his pitiful reply?
“What, you don’t trust me?”
A catch 22 with a hidden fee:
An Impending Death Sentence

All it took was one kiss
And she got distracted
A stop sign was missed
And her car….and her life, was impacted
Amidst all the confusion
Of sirens, blood, and delusion
Nobody bothered to check the blood transfusion
She was the one who forgot to brake, but that wasn’t even the deadly mistake
That left her with…. An Impending Death Sentence

All it took was one kiss
As he forced himself on her
He seduced her with his eyes
Then moved down to her thighs
And no matter how hard
She tried to resist
There was an unfortunate outcome
Of that misleading kiss
When he forced himself on her, he forced out her honor and left her with
An Impending Death Sentence

All it took was one kiss
Between a groom and his bride
And now it’s a kiss
Between mother and child
She cradled her baby girl
In her arms as she slept
And her tears burned her cheeks
As she wept and she wept
Over her innocent baby with

An Impending Death SentenceThis woman I know,
She has an impending death sentence
And although she knows her days are few
She already has Heaven in View.
Why is she so good at hiding what’s true?
HIV. Heaven in View

But it’s too late to lie, too late to cry, too late to wonder why….but still too early to die.
So now to God she’s talkin’
On Heaven’s gates she’s knockin’
The path to heaven they’re blockin
Now is the time for moral repentance
And she admits she had An Impending Death Sentence
AIDS. An impending death sentence
